Hi, my name is Lucky!

Lucky is a 14 year old Shepherd/Greyhound mix. When Lucky wandered up to Lynn Kellermann’s house 14 years ago looking for a home she was around six months old and had a broken hip.

About age 13, a growth was found in her throat. After several tests, it was determined this was not something easily handled. The only possible treatment might be surgery that she probably wouldn’t survive due to her age.

Her illness resulted in severe weight loss, and she was put on prescription food. Since the Kellermanns vet was almost 50 miles away, this became inconvenient very quickly. It was around this time that Dr. Lance finished building Lance Animal Hospital and since it was so much closer to the Kellermanns’ home, they started to buy food there.

The Kellermanns got to know Dr. Marie, her staff and her family more and more with each visit, and one day watched as an older dog left the facility. All the staff were thrilled at how much better the animal was moving after having cold laser therapy.

Dr. Marie described the process, and it sounded like something from which Lucky might benefit. It had become painful for her to get up or lie down, and she would fall on the linoleum or whenever one of the other dogs so much as bumped her. She would just lie there, defeated, barely trying to get up. She was pretty much unable to get up and down the three steps to the backyard and often had to be carried.

The cost of laser treatment was reasonable and the Kellermanns decided to give it a try. What Dr. Marie did not know was that as Lucky’s quality of life was steadily deteriorating, they had decided to put Lucky down sometime the following week. This was a long shot but they had to give Lucky that chance for life.

When they picked her up after her first treatment, she was still wobbly on her feet, but way more energetic. When they got her home she TROTTED – not walked – the length of the laundry room to go out. She maneuvered the stairs, admittedly slowly, but without help. They were utterly amazed.

The effects of cold laser treatment are cumulative, and with every passing treatment, Lucky improved dramatically. She finally hit a plateau, but within a week started making real progress again after getting a massage and adjustment.

It’s been a little over seven months now and Lucky is still improving. She has been circumnavigating the big and very steep hill that is the Kellermanns’ backyard with ease. She has no problem with the steps to the backyard and often jumps the last two. She is able to run a little with the other dogs, and recently climbed to the second floor of the house. She hadn’t climbed a flight a stairs for two years prior to her treatments! She no longer falls when the other dogs bump her and sometimes just jumps over the smaller ones.

The Kellermanns are still amazed at the results, and are very thankful to have found Dr. Marie Lance, her staff, and in particular cold laser therapy. Lucky once again loves to go for walks and her other problems have receded greatly also. She is no longer taking Rimadyl – in fact she has been off it for several months.

Once again she has a good quality of life thanks to the cold laser and Dr. Lance. Lynn Kellermann sums it up like this “I could not recommend them any more highly; they have saved my dog’s life!”
